A List of Fae Characters

Arthfael – former King of the Nine Realms. Deceased husband of Queen Gwenidw.

Aurddolen o’r Draigddynion – newly crowned ruler of the dragon territories in the fae realms.

Brenin Derw – a former ruler of the fae when there were Seven Realms instead of Nine. Father of Eirianwen and head of the House of Oak. Deceased.

Braith – brother to Trahern, non-identical twin.

Cadell – a pwca who befriends Trahern and later becomes a beloved companion to Fox

Celynnen – a powerful tywysoges (princess) of the House of Thorn. Queen Gwenidw is her great aunt.

Coventina – a sorceress of the Undines, wife of  the legendary Merlin or Myrddin

Daeria – rebellious female member of the Royal Court, envious of the Queen’s power and position.

Druce Aldergrove – an outspoken coblyn

Eirianwen – matriarch and ruler of the House of Oak. A powerful sorceress, she is known for her ruthlessness.

Emrys – a rider of the Wild Hunt, one of Lurien’s trusted inner circle

Fychan – a coblyn who owns a tavern in Tir Hardd that Trahern and other members of the Wild Hunt frequent

Glyn – a rider of the Wild Hunt, one of Lurien’s trusted inner circle

Gwenidw – the faery queen, widow of King Arthfael. Her formal title is Her Benevolent Grace, Queen Gwenhidw of the Nine Realms, Brenhines of the Faery Kingdom dan Cymru and its Territories

Heddwen – a female ellyll, caregiver to twins Trahern and Braith when they were children

Heulog – a rider of the Wild Hunt, one of Lurien’s most trusted hunters

Hyleath – a female rider of the Wild Hunt. She is their best tracker, and a trusted member of Lurien’s inner circle.

Iago – a rider of the Wild Hunt, a member of Lurien’s inner circle. Cousin to Hyleath.

Idelle – noblewoman of the House of Ash. Her family arranged a marriage to Braith for political gain –  a common practice among members of the Royal Court.

Lurien – the enigmatic Lord of the Wild Hunt, a law unto himself. He claims no nobility but his true ancestry is unknown. He is thought to be Tylwyth Teg, but does not resemble them – his hair and eyes are black. Typically dressed in dark leathers and boots. Possesses considerable powers of magic. Occasionally Lurien is referred to as The Lord of Lost Things.

Maelgwn – a cruel prince of the House of Ash who prizes power above all things.

Merlin – the legendary sorcerer who mentored King Arthur. Still walking the earth. A friend of Lurien, Lord of the Wild Hunt.

Myrddin – Welsh and Fae name for Merlin.

Nerilda – noblewoman of the royal House of Thorn. A healer, and notable for her compassion.

Nodin – a rider of the Wild Hunt, a trusted member of Lurien’s inner circle.

Nyx – a female Crymbil, servant to Celynnen in Storm Bound

Ranyon – an ellyll (plural is ellyllon). Not a fae, but an elemental. Very short in size – about knee-high – with a gnarled brown face and bright blue eyes. Brown leaves grown from his thick braided hair, and also cover his body like a coat, while his arms and legs resemble knobby tree branches. He’s adopted a life among humans, and is an avid fan of the Toronto Blue Jays baseball team. He is seldom seen without an official ballcap and a blue t-shirt that hangs to his knees like a tunic. Extremely talented in creating spells and charms. There are very few of his kind left in any world.

Rhedyn – a highborn dryad, she dresses only in green as a sign of her status

Rhiannon – grandmother of current queen Gwenhidw. Rhiannon was queen when the Seven Realms became Nine. Deceased.

Royal Court – any noble-born Tylwyth Teg is automatically a member of the Court. Those who actually spend time at Court in the Queen’s Palace tend to be shallow, manipulative, and devoted to pleasure and power. It should be noted that Queen Gwenidw seldom makes an appearance there.

Saffir – a fae healer. She is Tylwyth Teg but not highborn, and is known for being outspoken in the performance of her calling. Trusted to attend to the wounds of the Hunt’s riders and horses. Saffir is Braith’s lover.

The Wild Hunt – their role is complex in the fae world, and even more so in the human world above. It is said that they keep the unseen Balance between the two, acting as both protectors and judges, defenders and executioners. Among those condemned to follow after them are the dead and the damned, betrayers and murderers. Lurien is their lord and leader. Hunters in his trusted inner circle include Iago, Wren, Nodin, Hyleath, Emrys, Glyn, Heulog, and later, Trahern

Tylwyth Teg (Tuh-loo-ith Tehg) – the ruling class of fae. Tall and ethereally beautiful, usually with long white hair. Their eye color is always difficult to discern, appearing to be first one color, then another, or even all at once.

Tyne – male member of the Royal Court, consort to Daeria and easily led by her.

Wren – a rider of the Wild Hunt, one of Lurien’s trusted inner circle. While most hunters ride fae horses, Wren’s preferred mount is a bucca, a monstrous black goat with six horns and strange golden eyes. The bucca is taller than some of the horses, and often faster. Wren is also known for his fondness of the human world, and is often seen wearing sunglasses.
